Adding Content to Pages

Passing Parameter Values to a Page

When a page includes content with dynamic parameter filters, you can pass parameter values to it from external content to set the filter values when the page initially loads. For example, you can create a chart or report with drill-down links that point to the page, and configure the drilldowns in such a way that the value the user clicks in the chart or report is used as a filter value in the page. This allows users to navigate between content items and determine the scope of the information that they want to see.

Video: How to Personalize Default Values for Filter Controls

In this video we will discuss how to use an amper-amper global variable to personalize default values in filter controls on the page.

This feature is especially useful if you want to customize the initial view of the page and its content for specific users and groups. This feature requires access to the Text Editor and Administration Console.

Video: How to Use the Global Name Feature to Synchronize Filter Controls

In this video we will look at the Global Name feature of WebFOCUS Designer, which offers a quick and easy way to link control selections between pages.
To activate the feature, simply populate the Global Name field on the Properties panel for the filter controls that you want to link. You can enter any text that makes sense to you.

In our example we are assigning a Global Name to the Region and Dates controls. Notice that Dates is a combined control that consists of From and To controls. In case of combined controls, only one Global Name value can be assigned.

Welcome to this video on the link tile widget in WebFOCUS Designer.

The link tile widget provides additional innovative ways of using your content and incorporating it into your Designer page.
You can access the link tile widget from the Container tab of the Sidebar.

The Link tile widget arranges content in such a way that one content item becomes a click-through tile that opens another content item. This feature is especially useful when you need to incorporate a large or Insight-enabled item into a page and display it on all devices.

You can use WebFOCUS Designer to create responsive pages, filtered dashboards, and InfoApps to bring a wide variety of existing content together in one place.
InfoApps are a great way to provide a large amount of information in a single page, while still remaining clear and easy to navigate.  You can add a mix of charts and reports to a single page, and provide filters to enable users to focus on the information that matters to them.

You can use the Embedded JavaScript and CSS features in WebFOCUS Designer to modify the look of a page and to add additional elements to its interface. Custom CSS and JavaScript provide tremendous flexibility and provide nearly limitless customizability to your pages.

Video: Introducing WebFOCUS Designer

WebFOCUS Designer is a web-based content creation and assembly tool that you can use to quickly and easily create data visualizations from the ground up.
WebFOCUS Designer includes tools to blend your data with data flows, then use it to create charts and reports, and then combine those into interactive and responsive pages.
Charts let you deliver your data story with visual punch.

Reports allow you to present more granular data in an easy to navigate format.

Pages let you assemble content together to create data stories.

When you assemble a new visualization from existing content, you can access the items in your repository from the Content tab. The items are visible in the form of a resources tree.
To assemble a visualization from existing content, click the plus button on the default WebFOCUS Home Page and then click Assemble visualizations. Select a template to get started.

When you click the Content tab on the sidebar, the Resource Selector displays the same domain or folder from which you created the page.

Filters allow you to limit the data that displays in your content to show only the information that is important or relevant to you.  You can create static filters, which are always applied to your content and cannot be edited at run-time, and prompted filters, which are dynamic parameter filters. This means that you can select the value or values to display at run time.

Video: How to Hide Content From Devices

In this video we will learn how to hide certain containers from specific devices.

This feature is especially useful if you need to hide large or complex content items from smaller devices.
To hide a container from specific devices, select it on the canvas, and, in the Properties panel, configure the Show On property.

Notice that all device buttons are selected by default. Manually clear the buttons to hide the item from specific device types. Here we are hiding a large map from tablets and mobile phones.
