Visualizing Data

Video: How to Create Calculated Fields

When you create content in WebFOCUS Designer, you are not restricted to the fields that exist in your data source. You can create calculations from the data that exists to automate summations and other mathematical tasks related to your data fields. You can specify operators, fields, variables, and functions when creating a calculation. A calculation takes up no storage space in the data source, and is created only when needed.
You can create the following types of calculations:

You can create maps to identify patterns in your data. Data with geographic dimensions is converted into values that can be displayed on a map, making it easy for you to visualize scenarios, illustrate hot spots, and identify potential problem areas.
There are two types of maps: Choropleth and Proportional Symbol , or bubble, maps. Choropleth maps are useful for visualizing location-based data, trends, and distributions across a geographic area. Bubble maps focus on specific points. The size of the bubble varies depending on the underlying data.

Using WebFOCUS Designer you can create different types of content to visualize your data.  You can create new content and combine it into a visualization, or you can assemble a visualization from existing content.

Reports allow you to organize, aggregate, and display precise data values in a tabular format.

Charts allow you to display your data in a visual format for instant interpretation.  WebFOCUS includes a variety of chart enhancements so you can dig deeper into the chart for more precise analysis.

You can change the data format for a field to change how the values are displayed. For example, you can change the number of digits or decimal places displayed in a number, the maximum length of a character string, the format of a date field, or apply a custom format by typing in the WebFOCUS language designation.  You can apply format changes to fields from the data source that were added to a chart, as well as to define and compute fields.

Video: How to Enable Hierarchical Drilling With Auto Drill

Auto Drill is a feature that enables anyone who views your content to see related data by navigating field hierarchies.
You can use Auto Drill in charts using any data source with field hierarchies. Enabling Auto Drill is easy. In a chart, for example, simply create the chart using a field that is part of a hierarchy and, from the Content area on the Settings tab, turn on AutoDrill.

Today we will show you how to use Auto Linking.  Auto-linking allows you to dynamically link many charts and other content to a single chart, based on their common sort (BY) fields and parameters referenced in any filters. This saves you a lot of time and effort creating and maintaining drilldowns in your charts.
Auto Linking enables you to dynamically access a vast amount of information from a single chart, resulting in a library of interconnected, referable content.

Filters allow you to limit the data that displays in your content to show only the information that is important or relevant to you.  You can create static filters, which are always applied to your content and cannot be edited at run-time, and prompted filters, which are dynamic parameter filters. This means that you can select the value or values to display at run time.
