Problem

How to list any configuration or system changes to our production environment for a given date range.

Solution

There is an ACI Monitoring report available in Resource Management in release 7.7.09M/8205M of the Reporting Server. It provides the following information:

Changes to the server configuration files, and user application files in the Reporting Server APP PATH. The actual changes that are made are not reported, but who, when, and the type of access is shown.

An Event Routing rule can be created to track the following information:

  • Agent aborts
  • Listeners
  • Special services
  • Agent crashes

By default, the edaprint.log file will contain this information which will contain the timestamp,  but it does not display who caused it. A focexec could be run when the rule is triggered to insert this into a file/database that would act as an audit trail.

Depending on the type of security used, connected agents may be listed with the username and timestamp in the edaprint.log. Besides changes to the Reporting Server configuration files, changes to other files would not be listed in these reports or logs. Also, changes made from the operating system directly will not be recorded.

For additional information, refer to the ACI Monitoring section of the Resource Analyzer Administrator's and User's Manual.
