App Studio Changes to Access Tools and Options


As of Release 8207.22, App Studio is changing the way to access web tools and server components. You can invoke these tools and options directly from the browser. 

File Tool and Synonym Editor

1.    On the Home tab, in the Data & Metadata ribbon group, the Create, Design, Open, and Upload Data buttons are no longer available. The More option is renamed to Interactive.
2.    On the Home tab, in the Configure ribbon group, the Connect button is no longer available.
3.    In the Environments Tree and Environments Detail panels, when right-clicking a synonym, the Open and Refresh Synonym options are no longer available.
4.    In the Environments Tree, under the Data Servers node, when right-clicking New on an Application folder, the Synonym, Synonym via Metadata Canvas, and Upload Data options are no longer available from the menu. The Define Function Library option will remain.
5.    Under Workspaces, the Upload Data option is no longer available.

Reporting Server

6.    The Reporting Server is no longer packaged with App Studio and the installation will no longer install it.

Web Tools

7.    In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking a folder-level menu item, the Upload Data, Security, and ReportCaster Explorer options are no longer available from the menu.
8.    In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking an item and selecting New, the Schedule and Other options are no longer available from the menu.
9.    In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking a Schedule item, instead of clicking the View Log option, use the browser to invoke this tool directly.
10.  In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking a Library item, instead of clicking the View option, use the browser to invoke this tool directly.
11.  The WebFOCUS Administration menu, located at the top right of the main window, is no longer available.
12.  In the Environments Tree, under the Data Servers node, when right-clicking a synonym, the Open option is no longer available.

File Tool and Synonym Editor 

Number 1 – On the Home tab, in the Data & Metadata ribbon group, the Create, Design, Open, and Upload Data buttons are no longer available. The More option is renamed to Interactive. 

To design a new synonym or add synonyms to configured adapter connections:

1.    Navigate to the Server Console by using the URL or by right-clicking a Data Server node.

2.    Click the Get Data button, as shown in the following image.

3.    Under Server Files, right-click a configured adapter, and select Show Connections, as shown in the following image.

4.    When the Connections page opens, right-click a connection and select Show DBMS Objects, as shown in the following image.

The Create Synonym page opens where you can create new synonyms.

To open a synonym:

From the Server Console, right-click a synonym, and select Open, as shown in the following image. The synonym opens in the Synonym Editor.

To upload data: 

1.    From the Server Console, click the Get Data button, as shown in the following image.

2.    Under Local Files, right-click a file type, as shown in the following image. This opens the file picker for you to select a file to upload.

The More option is renamed to Interactive. The App Studio Interactive button is shown in the following image.

Number 2 – On the Home tab, in the Configure ribbon group, the Connect button is no longer available.

You can connect directly to the Server Console from the browser, using your host and port number, for example: http://localhost:8121. 

You can also configure and connect from the Server Console Get Data page. 

1.    Under Server Files, click the New (+) button, as shown in the following image.

2.    When the Available Adapters page opens, you can select the adapter to which you want to connect, as shown in the following image.

3.    Type the connection parameters and click Configure.

Note: If the adapter is already configured, you can add a new connection by right-clicking the adapter, selecting Show Connections, and then, on the Configure Connections page, clicking the New (+) button.

Number 3 – In the Environments Tree and Environments Detail panels, when right-clicking a synonym, the Open and Refresh Synonym options are no longer available. 

To open a synonym:

From the Server Console, right-click a synonym and select Open, as shown in the following image. The file opens in the Synonym Editor.

From the Server Console, right-click a synonym, select Metadata Management, and then select Refresh, as shown in the following image.

Number 4 – In the Environments Tree, under the Data Servers node, when right-clicking New on an Application folder, the Synonym, Synonym via Metadata Canvas, and Upload Data options are no longer available from the menu. The Define Function Library option will remain.

To create a synonym:

1.    From the Server Console, click the Get Data button, as shown in the following image.

The Create Synonym page opens and you can select the objects for which synonyms should be created.

Number 5 – Under Workspaces, the Upload Data option is no longer available. 

To upload data:

1.    From the Server Console, click the Get Data button, as shown in the following image.

1.    On the WebFOCUS Home page, click the Settings icon (Gear), as shown in the following image.

To access the ReportCaster Explorer:

1.    On the WebFOCUS Home page, click the Utilities icon (Tools), as shown in the following image.

Number 8 – In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking an item and selecting New, the Schedule and Other options are no longer available from the menu.

You can access InfoAssist, the Schedule option, and the Other option from the WebFOCUS Home page.

Number 9 – In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking a Schedule item, instead of clicking the View Log option, use the browser to invoke this tool directly.

1.    On the WebFOCUS Home page, click Workspaces, as shown in the following image.

2.    To view a log for a Schedule item, right-click the item and select View log, as shown in the following image.

Number 10 – In the Environments Tree, when right-clicking a Library item, instead of clicking the View option, use the browser to invoke this tool directly.

1.    On the WebFOCUS Home page, click Workspaces, as shown in the following image.

2.    To view a log for a Library item, right-click the item and select View, as shown in the following image. You can view the latest log or previous logs for the item.

Number 11 – The WebFOCUS Administration menu, located at the top right of the main window, is no longer available.

You can access the Administration menu options, using the Utilities and Settings options at the top right of the main window, as shown in the following image.

Number 12 – In the Environments Tree, under the Data Servers node, when right-clicking a synonym, the Open option is no longer available.
