Filtering Overview for In-Document Analytic Reports

You can add filters to interactive reports that are enabled with In-Document Analytics capabilities to control the display of information in the reports and to give your recipients or end-users the ability to focus on a specific set of data for additional analysis. Filters can be created by both the report developer, and the end-user, using the options in the Column menus.

To access the Column menu:

  1. Create a report in InfoAssist or WebFOCUS Designer.
  2. Change the output format to HTML Analytic Document format or AHTML, respectively.
  3. Add dimensions and measures to the report.
  4. Run the report.
  5. Click within the header of the item on which you want to filter.
    The Column menu displays.
  6. Select items on which to filter or set a range of values if the column value is numeric.
  7. Click within the report to see the refreshed data.

Note: If you are a developer, you can distribute your filtered report to its intended recipients. If you are an end-user, you can add additional filters to the report to modify its content.

Filters enable you to select one or more items, indicate a range, or even highlight a certain portion of the data that you want to call out. You can specify more than one filter per column. For example, you might filter on a few states and then highlight those values in the table. Each filter will display uniquely at the top of the respective column.

In-Document Analytics supports two primary types of filters: check box controls and slider controls. Check box controls are used for dimensions, which contain individual non-numeric values. Slider controls are used when working with numeric values. Depending on the type of field that you are working with, the relevant filtering option opens. For example, if your data set is numeric (for example, Revenue), a slider range opens, allowing you to indicate the numeric values by which you can filter your content. You can use the default range or set a specific range that falls within the default range. If you are working with a dimension that has textual values (for example, Model), check boxes display and you can pick one, multiple (consecutive and non-consecutive), or all values in the list.

A filter requirement can be as simple as locating all records that begin with a certain letter. If you are indicating a numeric value, you can specify the beginning and ending value for the range that you seek. If a value falls outside of the range that you specify, the value will be crossed through with a red line.

In the following image, a filter displays for all Models that begin with the letter G. To select all values in the list of options, click Select. To clear all selections, click Clear. You can select one or more consecutive or non-consecutive values by clicking the associated checkbox. To remove all filters that have been applied, click the Remove Filter icon, , which is located in the header of the referenced column, as shown in the following image.

Note: You can edit the filter by clicking on the filter in the column heading.

From the Column menu, you can:

  • Select an option on any list of options.
  • Click a selected filter option again to remove it from the filter.
  • Specify a filter value.
  • Use the slider option for numeric values to specify a range.
  • Select All filter values or clear all selected filter values.
  • Use the Highlight option to showcase certain values in your report.

On a mobile device, you can use filters to customize how your data displays. On a run-time interactive report, locate and tap the title of the column that you want to filter. The Column menu displays, specifying the default filter condition and default values for the selected column in the existing report, as shown in the following image.

The menu retains any previous filters that were applied to this column of the report. Specify any filter values or tap the report to accept the filters, as indicated.

Tap Clear to remove all the specified filters that are currently applied to this report. Tap Select to select all values that apply to this filter. To remove all filters, tap the Remove Filter icon, , which is located in the header of the referenced column.
