Working With Large Data Sets

With WebFOCUS Designer, you can create content from very large data sets, which enables you to visualize and identify possible outliers or analytics that you may not see clearly in tabular report. There is no hard limit to the amount of data points that WebFOCUS can render on a chart.

Begin by connecting to your large data set or uploading it to WebFOCUS. The following image shows a large health care data set found on the web, mid-upload in WebFOCUS. It also highlights the number of rows that are available in this comma delimited (CSV) file.

Large data set during Upload

After you connect or upload your data, you can bring it into WebFOCUS Designer, where you can create a chart. In the following image, the large health care data set is shown as the default bar chart type.

Immediately, you can begin to quickly analyze your data and spot outliers. Because the data set you chose contains many data values, the bar chart shows a scroll bar so you can view additional data points.

You can keep the default chart type or change your chart type to see a different view of your data. In the following image, the same large health care data set is shown as a scatter chart. In this view, you can see additional outliers, as well as the areas of information that overlap the most.

Note: If you create a chart with WebFOCUS Designer that uses additional interactivity, such as drill down or animation, causes the rendering to be slower than expected.
